The Impact Assessment Committee (IACom) of Heritage Western Cape (HWC) is at the forefront of safeguarding the region’s rich cultural and historical legacy. Tasked with assessing the potential effects of large-scale developments on heritage resources, IACom ensures that the Western Cape’s treasures are protected amid progress. Operating under the National Heritage Resources Act (Act 25 of 1999), IACom evaluates applications that may affect provincial heritage sites, provisionally protected sites, and archaeological or paleontological heritage. This includes reviewing development applications, Heritage Impact Assessments (HIAs) and associated reports to ensure compliance with legal standards and the preservation of significant resources.

The IACOM convenes monthly, contingent upon the receipt of applications referred by the HOMs, and operates in accordance with the Rules of Order and Conduct of Meetings of the Council of Heritage Western Cape and its Committees. These meetings are open to the public, allowing interested individuals to attend.
