Heritage Western Cape (HWC) will be migrating onto the South African Heritage Resources Information System (SAHRIS) platform. This means that applications made to HWC in terms of the National Heritage Resources Act (NHRA) will be made via the SAHRIS platform and will be fully digitised from submission to resolution.
We will be migrating one step at a time. The first step will be the Section 38(1) Notification of Intent to Develop (NID) application process. Applicants will be able to submit NIDs to HWC via SAHRIS from 5 May 2025.
In preparation for this transition, applicants, heritage-practitioners, conservation bodies, and the heritage components of municipalities within the Western Cape are encouraged to begin familiarising themselves with the SAHRIS platform.
Visit the site here https://www.sahris.org.za and register as a user to start exploring the functions available to you.
All other applications are still to be submitted to hwc.hwc@westerncape.gov.za while HWC prepares for the full launch.
HWC strongly encourages applicants to make use of SAHRIS during this trial period and inform us of your user experience.
